How to inspect and maintain your roof

Spring has arrived in Edmonton, and it’s time to inspect your roofing and siding for leaks.

Roof Repair Edmonton

The snow has finally started to melt, and it is time to either climb up onto your roof or, even better, contact one of our roofing specialists to come and give you peace of mind about your roofing. Whether you have large commercial roofing, flat roofing, cedar roofing or simply old-fashioned residential shingles, it is important to have it inspected regularly and make sure no problems have arisen over the winter that could lead to long-term damage to your roofing structure and shingles.

Ice dams, heavy snows, and other phenomena can cause subtle but significant long-term issues with your roofing, skylights, and shingles during the winter. Catching these early can differ between a simple roof repair or a total roof replacement.

To help some of our homeowners who may decide to climb up yourself to take a look, here are some of the things you should look for:

First, you should look into your attic, if you can, and look for the following:

  • Signs of water damage
  • Signs of leaking
  • Outside light is coming in.
  • Dark spots or trails on the roof

Then you can carefully climb up and look at your roof closely. Look for the following:

  • Damaged or missing shingles
  • Moss build-up
  • A lot of Shingle grain in the gutters

Since we live in Edmonton, roofing repairs can also happen due to ice build-up. Look at your gutters and siding to see if ice dams have pushed them out of alignment or caused bulging behind them.

It is very important to note that climbing up on a roof can be very dangerous and can result in severe injury or death. Wet roofs and icy roofs are very slippery and should not climb under any circumstance. If you want us to send out an expert to take a look for you, don’t hesitate to contact us and let us know, and we will book a time to come out and ensure your roof is in good order.
